If you don't get up in the middle of the night to check email there is no need to leave it on. Why waste the juice? So it takes a extra minute to boot up in the morning, I'm sure there isn't anything that can't wait while you grab a cup of coffee.
There is little current draw when the computer is hibernating, but why even waste that? Look around the house and see all those red, green, or blue led's glowing. All that is wasted electricity, now why add even more, with no reason. We shut everything off at night, just no good reason not to. I've been doing it for about 20 years with no issues...no dead hard drives, no toasted CPU's, no bad memory. I guess I just don't like waste that I can avoid.
