phishing.....if you click on the link contained in the email you are toast...probably get a virus or get locked out due to ransom.

Its bull. Changing passwords is always a good idea, but the email and the threats accompanying it are completely bogus. I get two or three of those every day, and have been for a couple months now. Just delete them, don't even bother opening them.

I get many junk emails per day asking for "email confirmation", trying to look like various legit businesses. They're getting pretty good at it, but I can usually hover over the sender's name, and the email client shows the "real" email name which is usually gobbledy gook dot something dot country code. Many end in CN = China, or BR = Brazil, or RU = Russia, PK = Pakistan, so assuming the suffixes are the only real part (big assumption) they come from everywhere. The internet is the developed world's playground.
Never got any ransomware ones. Yet.
Keep your MS system software up to date, and the chances are greatly reduced.

do not answer their message. Most of them are spam until you answer it then its got you...

I do a reset on the computer when I get one of those and run a malware check... Once I get their response deleted I'm ok...

Only place I get them is on FACEBOOK clicking on photos to view or stories to read about... One used be a real nice looking small RV that was afoat living... Got me two or three times... The first thing say is DO NOT DELETE THIS...

Change all passwords immediately. Make them complex and long.

on edit: Change your login names. Check your accounts on the computer. Make sure someone did not create one for their use. If so, delete.

Delete it and change your passwords just to be sure.

Go change your passwords...
