Exporting E-mail addresses

OK, I want to move e-mail addresses from the laptop (Thunderbird) to my new desktop. IIRC, there is a way in Windows to export the information to an appropriate format for importation to Thunderbird on the desktop.
Anybody remember how to do it??

Thanks.
  • MozBackup will copy TB's profile folder which contains your mail accounts, emails, passwords, addon extensions, etc. So can easily upgrade to a new system without having to re-configure your email accounts. You can manually copy the profile folder, but MozBackup makes it easy.
  • MozBackup is good, but be aware of the extra junk that FileParade tries to install if you're not paying attention and declining the things you don't want.
  • SRT,

    Don't Work So Hard...
In TB go to Address book,
    pick Tools
    pick Export
Choose a file type and write it to the desk top
Get it from one desk top to the other (only about 50 ways)
Then open the same path on the new machine and pick Import...

  • If you export just your email addresses, then you will have to setup your email account(s), passwords, plus transfer any locally stored emails, over to your new computer. Or copy the TB profile file from your laptop, paste into your desktop install of TB, and you're done. Nothing to setup. TB will be identical to you laptop.

I'm interested in using MozBackup as I'm migrating from a Vista laptop to a Windows 8.1 machine. Do I need to load a new copy of Thunderbird on the 8.1 machine first, or will MozBackup do it all for me?

    Thanks

  • You will need to have Thunderbird installed already.

Although I have used Mozbackup I now just copy the profile file from the Thunderbird profile folder and copy it to the Thunderbird profile folder on the new computer. That way all settings, emails, and addresses are transfered.
I do a weekly backup of the profiles of Firefox and Thunderbird as part of my regular backups so they are on an external hard drive sort of automatically.
