ExpressCard/54 will not stay plugged into laptop

I have a HP laptop. It does not have USB3.0 ports so I got a ExpressCard/54 that has USB3.0 ports. I use the ExpressCard/54 to connect an external USB3.0 hard drive that I use for backups. The problem...

USB 3 devices are backward compatible with 2. You don't need the card. Take it back.
