ExpressCard/54 will not stay plugged into laptop

I have a HP laptop. It does not have USB3.0 ports so I got a ExpressCard/54 that has USB3.0 ports. I use the ExpressCard/54 to connect an external USB3.0 hard drive that I use for backups. The problem...

No button, simply push in until it locks in. It work for a while then it will stop working.
