In the past couple of weeks I've joined several FB RV groups, some for full-timers and some that are general interest. Many of the people in those groups do not act as if they are familiar with or participants in this or other online forums, although I'm sure some are. I agree that the the "timeline" format of FB groups makes it difficult to find previously posted information so there is a lot of repetition, but there is on these forums also because many people post new topics rather than searching previous posts.
One thing I have noticed is that the speed of response on these groups is much faster than for typical forum posts. And there are definitely lots of people using them. I think both these forums and FB have a role; if you don't like FB that's fine but recognize that there's a lot of information on it that's not being posted here.
