I will note (not that I love M$ products a ton, but it's my job) that Apple has around 7% of the total market last I checked. At my company there are only a few thousand Macs at most.
Linux only has about 2% share, ChromeOS has around .5%. Guess who has the rest. :/
BTW if Ubuntu didn't recognize your drive it could have been Bitlocker or some other encryption product interfering with it. Or the drive itself was just toast.
All that matters is that YOU enjoy it, use it for at least 3 years, and have a good experience.
