I have a 2008 Macbook, still works for browsing. But, prefer my windows 7 desktop. Win 10 does not do good on older hardware, must have newer HW to get updates to work properly. I use Linux Mint on my 8 Y.O. HP ProBook. They all got their ups and downs. Apple is best quality over all. I would trust a Mac on the road, even a referbed one. Safari browser is not my pick, Mozilla Firefox is best, Chrome is next.
