Firefox and a search engine

OK, all you techies. Using Firefox, it always defaults to yahoo for a search engine. I can go into Firefox Options and set google as the default search engine, but results always come back in yahoo. I can enter a search item in the Search block on the top line and click on Google as the search engine, and the results come back in yahoo. I have even removed yahoo from the list of search engines. And any google search still comes back in yahoo.

I can open a google.com page and enter a search item and the results come back in yahoo.

This is something that started happening a couple months ago. Before, a google search always came back in google. How do I get it back?
  • A google search turns up the fix for this.. but apparently that doesn't work.

This is exactly what I did. And it still reverts to yahoo. I even removed yahoo from the list of search engines and Firefox puts it back.
  • I seem to recall that at one time if you allowed Yahoo to set itself as your default homepage, it also set your search engine. Any attempt to change the setting to another engine just resulted in it changing back the next time FF was started. An Google search might turn up how to fix it.
