Firefox browser

Just installed Firefox as browser and google as home page in a new LT with WDW8 ... first, WDW8 can go in the trash can.

But, I have to use it, so will eventually figure it out.

And, each time I click on the FF icon to open the web, it asks me if I want to "let this program make changes" ... I know it does that when I make a change, normally, but it shouldn't open every time I open the FF browser?

FF was working okay, but slow, so I ran the compatibility fix and now it runs faster. But the "permission" window opens every time since I ran that compatibility mode.

Any suggestions, fix here - thanks

IN addition: This LT is a brand new one and should be very fast, but once I opened it, was very fast, but a buncha weird programs kept trying to sell me stuff - and I uninstalled all of them. But it still runs slow online?? Wish I knew more about these things, but this one runs slower online than my three year old Dell.
  • Install Classic Shell on your Win8 computer. This will provide you with a Win7 desktop that you are familiar with. Now, with time and at your own pace, you can "learn" Win8 and figure out how it works best for you.
I hated W8, I installed CS and thought nothing else of it. Then, I started playing with W8 and found that I liked it, once I understood it. I have now uninstalled classic shell and very happy with W8. I just needed time!
  • I think your problem is a setting in your Firefox security screen.
    TOOLS> OPTIONS> SECURITY
  • While you can use Win 7, if you own Win 8, You might as well get used to it. It ain't going away and eventually you will have to move to the Metro. Resistance is futile.
  • These may be helpful, but not answering my question - HOW do I shut off the "Permissions" window that pops up EVERY time I open FireFox?
I guessing you should be able to make the changes by going to the "preferences" of Fire Fox.
  • Go to Control Panel, User Accounts and Family Safety, Change User Account Control
  • Me thinks it's a Windows issue, not Firefox. Just spent 10 minutes looking through all the options on Firefox Settings, nothing.

You do not have to use Windows8, or any other Version of Windows. I installed Zorin Linux. I love it! It can be set to look and act like either xp or Windows7. It is free Open-Source Software.
  • Great - I would go with XP, but what I really want right now is to shut that "permissions to make changes" window every time I open FF.
  • W8 takes some getting used to. I would run 98 if I could.
