That great memory amount you mention will just hold my music and nothing else. No books, no photos, no games, no apps.
The point of the creek comment is simply that if all your devices are tied up into one device and it breaks or gets lost, you lose the use of all the devices.
Of the people I know who have smart phones, only about 1/3 actually use it for more than texting, email and calls. For trhose who want them that's great - but those that don't aren't dinosaurs or dumb, they are doing what they want despite the marketing.
