The isp doesn't provide anything. The hardware is handled by the local power company. There's a box on the house full of Ethernet ports. The isp works with the power company for establishing connections.
Linksys calls their installation software LinksysSmartWiFi. I didn't think it was too smart...not for 2016. I guess routers are one piece of hardware that hasn't got to the plug-and-play stage. The part I get a kick out of is being told to turn something off for 2 minutes, then turn it on and wait 2 minutes. I tried to manually configure the new one, but I couldn't get far enough in the 'smart' setup to obtain the password.
My older modem doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
