Footnote:
I've been up in San Jose all week and stopped by Fry's today on the way to the airport. I happened across 4 guys ironically in the switch and router isle, 2 from Google, and the other 2 from the Cisco campus. These guys were clearly nerds, not sales or admin guys. We got to talking and I finally asked if any if their installs anywhere used IP controlled power management devices? One of the Cisco guys said "sure".. I asked "why", and told them about this discussion. Same guy said "Sh** happens. Our equipment is all over the world where in some places it's a two day trip to get to (and that's MY problem) or customers simply can't can't staff the data centers. Nothing's perfect". And his final comment was "why not?"
This from the premiere enterprise manfacturer of everything from switches to business class phone systems. Good enough for me..
