free popup blocker

Any one know of a free popup blocker ?

  • I use the built in blocker plus AdBlocker and AdBlocker Plus and I also have Ghostery running to block data harvesting. This gives a very clean browsing environment but I wanted to warn people that are new to the whole privacy issue. Some websites have managed to block their content if at least some ads or information isn't allowed. Other websites where you need to do some interactive action they may not completely work if you don't turn off some or all of Ghostery.

So when a web site doesn't seem to be working try toggling off some of your extras.
  • Browser built-in popup blockers are limited in effectiveness. They typically don't block Javascript based popups. Try this Simple Popup Test. Most browsers won't block it? Some may prompt you with warning such as IE, depending on configuration?

As mentioned, you may need to incorporate an ad blocking extension in your browser. Plus a separate Javascript blocking add-on. Of course, you can manually disable Javascript, but can become tedious as many websites require it to work.
  • It would help if we knew what browser and version you are using.
Firefox now has one built in but earlier versions did not and you had to download an add-on.
SO without knowing what you got the answers here will not help you muc

I always try to use CNET for freeware. They try real hard to keep their freeware downloads free of viruses...

Also saw a whole bunch of free POPUP BLOCKERS listed on google search of 'Free POPUP BLOCKERS'

I use FIREFOX which has theirs built-in
