FreedomPop mingle hotspot

Before I realized Cricket had opened up their Hotspot featuure I had ordered a FreedomPop Mingle Hotspot for $44 and free shipping. The base is a half a gig free of 4G/LTE data a month but they give you a 2 gig trail when you buy it. That plan would be $19.99 a month if I kept it. You can add a single gig for $10 and they have larger plans too as well as roll over features, etc.

The only feature I will add to the free plan is the ability to use 4G and 3G for $4 a month since it gets no 4G here. I'll head into Denver today an see if it gets any 4G down there.

It took a week to get here and had enough charge to fire it up right out of the box. Out here 20 miles from downtown Denver it was only able to find 3G but that was fast enough to read the forums, play pogo and even load up a you tube.

It does run on Sprints network which is better in the east than the west I am told. It will be a back up to the phones hotspot until I hit the road, then it will be a alternative network.

Now if I could find something like it on Verison I would have all three major networks covered.

If someone only uses it during the summer months, can the hotspot be reactivated the next summer?
Yes, just add a data card PIN. I do that with my "hockey puck" version.
  • Oddly I live a half a block outside of sprints 4g coverage. Sprint is only now expanding their LTE here and it is concentrated to larger roadways and business areas.

I walked the mingle over to where it should have picked up 4G and all it did was get a really good 3G signal. I set it to LTE only and will see if it picks up anything at all while we are out and about later.

It also has a guest mode.
  • It you're able to get Sprint 4G LTE and regularly need more mobile data, Boost(Sprint) has a 10G monthly data plan for $50. It uses their Netgear hotspot, and also has a guest mode using a separate password.
  • That sound great and about what it would cost me for the same on the Freedompop for the extra gig and the ability to use both 4 and 3G. It would give me coverage from all the major carriers for the least amount of money.

I like the Straight Talk hotspot on either Verizon or ATT towers.

It costs only $49 at Walmart, plus $10 per GB for data. The least you can spend each month to keep it active is $15 with 1 GB.

Mine works on Verizon towers... with either 4G LTE or 3G.

I couldn't be happier... unless it was free.
