Furrion GPS Maps

We have a new Forest River Leprechaun Class C on order and it comes with a Furrion RV2200 in dash radio/back up camera/GPS unit. In order to use the built in GPS hey require you purchase an over priced SD card with the maps for $200.00. I plan to put that money towards a Garmin RV but I wouldn't mind having the in dash GPS as a back up. There are a lot of cheap generic map SD cards on e-bay but I have no way of knowing if any of them are compatible with this unit. Does anyone have the Furrion unit and if so have you found a cheaper source for maps?

  • I have the Furrion in my 2017 Jayco. Even when you get used to it it's still awful. Plus the screen on my unit was not touch sensitive enough. I bought the Garmin it's so much better.
  • Furrion is partnered up with Lippert. I wouldn't waste my money or time. No surprise to me they came up with a way to sell a piece of their junk to the RV builder, and then hold the end user hostage for a payout after the purchase. Most likely you'll go through the hassle, time and money, then it will be the first thing that takes a dump on your new RV. From my dealings with Lippert over the years I would bet dollars to donuts they have it encoded so you have to buy their overpriced card. Almost anything can be hacked but is it worth the effort? I'd start by finding someone who purchased one of those SD cards, make a copy and give it a try. Most likely it will not work as they either have it software locked to a registration number or encoded with a specific number linked to the individual unit. Plenty of ways to hack around that if your a little computer literate. I'm curious to know, once you buy that card and need a map update, how much do they extort the next time?

That's Lipperts M.O. with everything. Just look up prices of parts for anything they make that is proprietary such as Schwintek or other slide out parts, parts for Furrion shore power systems, Solera awning parts, basically anything at their online store. It's all overpriced.

Our 17 Rockwood came with a 32" Furrion TV. It was a piece of junk and had the worst picture I have ever seen on a modern LCD TV with led backlighting. The Furrion entertainment units they hawk for new RV's are also overpriced junk. The one thing that is constant when Lippert is involved is it's made as cheaply as possible, no matter what it is.
  • You probably could have negotiated that as part of the selling price.

If the GPS is not functional, it is worthless.
