Garmin Basecamp: exporting route

I created a route in Basecamp that I like because it is back roads. I send it to my Nuvi 2689. It shows up on the device with the right name etc but the route is different. (If you're familiar with NC, I want to go south of Fayetteville towards Charlotte but the route on the 2689 pushes me north of Fayetteville.)

Again, the name of the route is right but it is not what I made in Basecamp. I even deleted the route on the 2689 and resent it with the same results.

Doing this tomorrow so don't have a lot of time to study the issue. Many thanks in advance.
  • I still use S&T but the most recent update was 2013 and as time goes by it gets further & further out of date. I've used it for years setting up delivery routes for my Lions Club rose and citrus sales. As new addresses are added I have more and more problems finding them in S&T.

  • Like a fool, I keep trying Basecamp for planning trips, usually on non interstates. No matter how you set preferences in Basecamp & your Nuvi, unless you add a waypoint at every intersection, the recalculation done during the transfer will change your route.

As Lou stated, the route is going to be recalculated during the transfer so if you want it to follow your planned route you must use "tricks" to fool it. Why Garmin can't make laptop mapping software that actually works is beyond me...

I'm sorry but that simply isn't true. I use Basecamp constantly to plan routes for my motorcycling and it's no big deal to upload to my Nuvi and have it follow the route exactly. You do have to check it after uploading and insure that it is correct, but as long as I have my Preferences set the same there is usually no issue.

You do have to use multiple waypoints for a complicated route, but not at every intersection. If you have a circuitous route and only put in two or three waypoints, then you may have issues. I mapped out a route from Platte City, MO, to Rodanthe, NC, and have 7 waypoints. The route was accepted by my Nuvi 465T with no issues and no attempts to reroute. However if I had attempted to upload it with the "Truck" option selected it would have been a mess due to the Nuvi trying to route around "No Trucks" and other problems.

OTOH I have a very complicated motorcycling route in northern Arkansas that is only 312 miles long and has 19 waypoints. It takes advantage of most of the twisty roads in the area though.
