Garmin RV 760 Software Update Ver 2.60

Just noticed that Garmin have updated the software on their RV 760 GPS. There are quite a few changes both to the RV features and general usability.

Version notes

For me the big news is that they have resolved the dashboard issue. On my older Garmin GPS I could display multiple dashboards and display things like arrival time, miles to go, elevation etc. On the 760 they only have 1 dashboard. What they have done is make all this information available in the trip data. So now with the dashboard and trip data displayed I can see
  • Current time
  • Miles to go
  • Elevation
  • Arrival time
  • Speed

all on the screen at one.

Nice update.

I found this feature also and it can replace the dashboard. With my unit, however, all of the fields are changed back to default after a shutdown and power up. Have you found a way to "lock" these fields?

when I selected the desired fields they stay after shutdown. However the fields may be different between the "VIEW MAP" and "Where to". In the view map things like arrival time and distance to destination aren't available. Those functions are only available when you select a destination.

If I am not mistaken, all that dashboard data was already available when you select the trip data screen. Where it is not available is on the navigation screen. I didn't want to push extra buttons to see that data, that is why is should be on the dashboard, not buried in another screen.

Everything is now available on the main screen. The change Garmin made in this release was to add categories like Miles to destination, Arrival time to the trip data, these were not available before.

Here is a screenshot from my RV 760 GPS.

If you add the trip data to the screen using the menu button, you have the Speed button and 4 customizable buttons. I can now track miles to go, arrival time just like I could on my old Garmin Nuvi.

Made the first trip with the new version today, very nice.
