gas station app

I know I read on here a while back about people using app's and websites to find truck stops and what not. Since phone technology travels so fast I thought I'd check back to see what everyone is using right now. We have a trip to Va Beach in 2 weeks. We've made the trip a couple times already and I don't expect having problems finding diesel but knowing where the truck stops are for diesel is nice so I can plan my stops since they're much easier to get in and out of versus a regular gas station.
  • gas buddy x36 (I lost count)

It even shows pictures of the gas stations, lets you sort results by your favorite brands, etc. Admittedly I use the Pilot app sometimes to find where we may pass one along our route.

  • Besides the smart phone apps, you might want to peek at the Garmin Dezl 760LMT. The GPS is for trucks and RVs, it displays fueling stations capable of supporting large vehicles, as well as rest stops, repair locations, road/highway limitations (based on your vehicles dimensions and weight) ETC. Really a nice device!!
  • I got gas buddy and another called truckstop today. Both seem like pretty decent apps.

We are not a fan of the traffic on I64 and through the tunnel. Depending on the season (e.g., summer) and day (e.g., Fri/Sat) and time (rush hours) it can cost you an hour or so.

Wasn't sure where you were going, so I did some trip routing between Clifton Forge VA (on I64) to Holiday Travl Park in VB. Taking I64 its about 275 miles or closer to 300 if you take the alternative tunnel due to traffic. Alternatives bring you in on US460 -

    - from Clifton Forge follow US 220 south then US 460 east. That's about 300 miles. There are navigable diesel stations on 460 at the Bedford exit (rt 122), in Sutherland (a Shell on the right) just before I85, just east of Petersburg, and just before you join US58 in Suffolk. US 460 between the 220 intersection and Petersburg is 4 lane divided unlimited access (for the most part) with speed limits of 55, 60, and 65. From Petersburg east its 4 lane divided unlimited access, just don't speed through any town with a name starting with W.

If you stayed on I64 to Charlottesville then took US 29 south to 460 that would be about 360 miles. Staying on I64 to Richmond to I295 S to 460 is about 300 miles.
  • Thanks for taking the time to do that. We actually stay south of there off princess anne rd. We stay at North Landing Beach campgrounds. Been there the last 2 years & the kids have a blast there. They have a "beach" although it's fresh water & we're only about 15-20 minutes from Sandbridge beach which is far less crowded than Va Beach. We're going down on a Tuesday & leaving here early so we'll be making that Richmond to Va Beach leg ~2ish I would estimate so I'm hoping traffic won't be too terrible. At least not as bad as rush hour. My main issue with that drive is the people drive way too fast through there & the roads beat you to death after the tunnel.
