to get the message out of gmail and into a folder elsewhere, select the PRINT option, then instead of a printer, select "save as PDF", and say where to put it. Then as a PDF, it can be viewed, printed, or converted to a document. There does not appear to be any way to just save a message out of gmail, but someone else may have a better solution. I hope they will share.
