Good Sam GPS

Looking to buy in a few days a GPS specifically for RV use. I'm leaning toward the Good Sam 7" RVND 7735-LM GPS.

Love to hear opinions of this unit and any other options that might be in the $270-$300 range.
  • Thanks for all the replies and appreciate each view. Since over the years my sight has grown worst but my hearing remains strong, I probably will go with the Good Sam 7" RVND 7735-LM GPS rather than using a Google map

    Whoever, wife says I only have selective hearing so I guess I better sleep on my decision..Its 8:30AM so good time for a nap....Thanks

    Check out Google Maps and save yourself more than enough money to have a great dinner out.
    You will also be able to get more current and accurate information about things to do and places to go with Google then any GPS will ever be able to provide.
    Having traveled full time for almost 20 years (actually moving nearly the entire time) and having used Garmin's since 2003 or 04 I can tell you that my current 2016 Garmin is no match for Google Maps (now powered by WAZE).

    Bill, I'll take a good GPS anytime over 'printed' maps.

  • They all have warts but after dropping mine on its face last year and needing it desperately that day we traveled by car over 100 miles to replace it. Having so many outstanding features that are easy to get to makes life on the road much easier. If you are planning a new route it is always good to cross check and if you have good internet going to google earth can really ease the pain by giving you a visual of the places you need to turn,. I have even printed them out in the past.

    The broken gps now has a new screen and is my backup. I am an electronic tech so replacing it was easy.

    Buy a good Ram Mount and get it just above the dash so reading it does not take your eyes off the road.
  • I have a Rand McNally 7730 with a 7 inch screen, which is the same as the Good Sam RM 7735 (just doesn't have the GS Logo). The length, height, and weight for the RV or RV plus tow or towed vehicle can be set. The GPS will then route you away from low tunnels and bridges. It can be set to avoid small roads and dirt roads. There are lots of other settings for warnings about going over the speed limit, approaching sharp curves, construction zones, etc.

    I travel by myself; the cat is no good about reading maps and handling a smart phone or tablet, so I appreciate the step by step directions and visual showing which lane to get in for exits and interchanges. Also the motor home speedometer is hard to see it some lighting so I find myself using the GPS speed indicator – much easier to see.

    I am very happy with this GPS and now that I am used to it, I find it easier to use than the Garmin in my car. There is a learning curve though, it takes a while.

    Well I might be able to help after the GC. Looking for roads/routes and places to stay? Where in So Cal you headed for?

  • Here are a couple of previous discussions on the subject after doing a quick search;

    2.

    Personally we have a Rand McNally 7710 and it works great for us and would by another if the time ever came.

    Good luck.
