Since this is an IT created issue, are you sure they are not blocking access to Google or Yahoo? Using another browser would be an easy check? But you can also try to ping Google and Yahoo?
Hold down Windows Key+R and in RUN type CMD and ENTER. Type ping google.com and ENTER.
Do you see something like this?
Or does it fail? Try also ping Yahoo.com?
