My initial review.
Tried it out with my Sammy TV, Sammy Gtab 2 10.1 and Sammy S3. Both devices connect w/o issue to the TV. The device is solid plug 'n play. A slick-as-snot no-brainer.
My first run was using my home DSL network. No issues.
Next run was with my S3's hotspot. Issues. The rub is that the Chromecasr and the casting device must be on the same WiFi network. The S3 cannot run WiFi and the hotspot at the same time so it is not useable using my data connection. I can run the hotspot on the S3 and use the Gtab to feed the Chromecast dongle by them connecting to the S3's hotspot. Not so slick. I wanted to use just the phone and the TV.
Next letdown. I thought using a Chrome browser I could cast that to the TV. You cannot with an Android device as of now. You can with a windows PC.
LITTLE content. Via Android you can cast Netflix, YouTube and Play movies. Emphasis on the "period". I'll be keeping my HDMI cables and dongles handy for the time being.
Am I disappointed. Not really. With my Netflix credit I'm only into it for 11 bucks and I think it has a bright future. If I start dragging the laptop along again, it would give more bang for my 11 bucks.
For my rolling outhouse, HDMI cables or my Roku box have equal utility. Going on the road Sunday so give it real world test. None of 'em beat my DirecTV.
Did a test with Win7 & laptop. First you must install the Google Cast extension from:
Google Cast
to the Chrome Browser and download and install a windows program from:
Chromecast
and follow the prompts.
SAVE THE LINKS. They were not easy to find. Hardest part yet.
Once all is installed click on the cast icon to start casting. Anything in the Chrome page will display on the TV. I tried a SyFi series on my 55" TV. Quality was not great and choppy. Used the S3 hotspot.
That's all I know now.
