Not familiar with Verison hotspot but there should easily be a way to block unwanted usage from the hotspot itself.
It should show who/what is online and should be able to simply block it.
If not, would take it back or call the company that sold it to you.
I have one I bought from radio shack, a net gear and it is very easy to use even if you aren't computer savy. Good luck.
