  • The AT&T navigator app (rebranded Telenav) allows for offline downloads. They are a couple gig (1621MB for central US), and are available for the west, central, and eastern parts of the US. I've been using it since 2010, and it has worked pretty well.
  • It's definitely an improvement but I still prefer to use an app like CoPilot where I can download entire continents of map data for offline use. Takes up more local storage but far more useful. The area that Google allows you to save offline is way too small to be of real use, IMO.

Wonder how much space those maps take up in the memory?
Google says a map of metro Paris takes up about 6 MB.
  • As you select the area to save, it tells you how much space it will take. I use it all the time.
