Google maps on iPad

Worked fine for me. Have you tried closing some of the other apps that are running in the background? Hit the button on the front twice and the apps should show up at the bottom. If you select one and hold it, it will allow you to close them. I'd also try restarting it and run GM before you open any other apps and see what happens.

Interesting. I still can't make mine work.

I did a full restart, brought up Safari, went to maps.google.com, allowed it to use my position. I go to the directions screen, enter a start and end location, and tap the right arrow icon. It sits there.

Is there something else I should tap?

Do you have GPS on that iPad?
Sometimes Google won't work properly on just a wifi hookup. When I use my bluetooth GPS. Everything works fine.

You should download the actual *new* Google Maps app, instead of trying to use Google maps via the Safari browser.

The new Google Maps app on iOS (iPad's operating system) works great and I am very pleased with it.

I was using the app, not a web browser. I also use Chrome as a browser on the iPad. The web site worked using Chrome. Safari didn't know my location, but when I entered a starting and ending addresses, it worked. When you first go to the web page (in Safari and Chrome) you are prompted to get the Google map app.

Do you have an app that allows waypoints (ie go from A to B by way of C)? I like to use that to make it show me time and distance for a particular route. The web site allows that.

Sorry, didn't see that requirement ... The new iOS Google Maps app does allow you to pick from multiple routes, but I did not see a way to add waypoints, or intermediary points along the way. I also like this feature on the PC. I accomplish this, on a PC using the website, by dragging the route ... it updates the directions/mileage/time of arrival. Wish they did put this feature into the app... Maybe it is there and we just haven't figured out how to do it???

When using the app, I just go from current location to the first place, then once there, do the same to the next place, and so on.

I have a special file on my iPad and iPhone titled Apple Crap. In this file, I put Safari, Game Center, Passbook, Mail, Reminders and Weather all I refer to as Apple Crap.

I'm sure the Google Maps app works great, but it won't install on my iPad 1. I hate how Apple treats users of it's older products as though we no longer exist.
