You might be able to install WINE to your Ubuntu which runs Windows software under Linux. There is sometimes limited function with this and may or may not recognize the GPS USB connection. The other possibility is to reinstall Win XP on the laptop in a dual boot with Linux. Then boot into XP to install MS S&T, run it from XP, and all will work as it should - and there is no need for any internet connection.
