GPS Navigation

We have Navigation system in our GMC Seirra Denali dully. Since we are towing a 40'+ fifth wheel with the height of 13'9" there are some roads that we can not go on, and bridges we can not go under.

I called GM to see if they had a disc that shows height restrictions for us and they said that they do not. I find this hard to believe since GM makes tractor trailers. We would rather not have to purchase another GPS, but would like to know what other 5th wheelers and toy haulers are doing for navigation systems, apps. Etc. Can someone tell me what they use? Google Maps does not show "Trucker or rv" height restrictions.

Thanks:@:h
  • Can you load POI files to it, if so buy this one to it. Be advised it tells you when you are close to a low clearance, not that it's on your road or the one you are about to pass over.

We had it in our Garmin for years and it does work

We just got a Garmin RV760 and in initial trials are very happy with it. link
  • I am not sure if we can link it or not but I am definitely gonna try. If not the Garmin will be purchased! Thanks for your help!

The newest Garmin is the rv660 a little smaller screen

The Gps store has them for $299 and no tax - cheapest I have ever found them - ordered mine just now

  • I have the Garmin RV760 also. Be sure to plan your trip using paper maps as it will get you lost in a heartbeat. I don't trust it for anything except interstate highways and I do like the way it lets you know what is the best lane to be in. No GPS should be trusted completely but this Garmin really chooses crazy routes and can quickly get you into trouble. My old Garmin (not for RV's) would have been better in my opinion.
  • I have a Rand McNally 7760. It has height and ground clearance options among others. It is set to the male voice. DW has a Garmin Nuvi by her seat and it is set to the female voice. We like to sit back and listen to the two disagree. Reminds us of the days when we used paper maps, atlases and guide books. We keep a trucker's atlas handy to settle any disagreements between the g.p.s. I recommend you do the same.
