GPS route using "No Left Turn" algorithm?

Anyone know of a GPS unit or app that plots a route with no left turns? (probably everyone is doing this except me):(

This would be especially useful when navigating large cities.

UPS has huge success using this algorithm. Why not the rest of us?

If you cannot make a left turn with or without your RV you shouldn't be driving, period.
Be sure to tell that to the next person who turns left in front of you. Happens all the time, even when you think you've looked and then looked again. I've never pulled out in front of anyone but I've come close a time or two. Not turning left eliminates any issues.

You may have done it yourself, most who do it are totally unaware of what they've done.
This is the #1 issue for me - reducing risk. That's why I don't drive when it's raining/snowing and don't drive at night. I plan ahead, don't make frivolous trips, don't drive fast and don't take chances (when driving). Staying healthy and keeping all my body parts is a big deal for me!

OTOH, I do kitesurf and mountain bike - so I guess I prefer to live dangerously only when not driving a vehicle - which I consider the most dangerous and risky activity I participate in.
  • I wonder how much fuel is burned waiting for the left turn vs. driving 4 extra blocks, stopping at each corner and if red, waiting to turn when it gets clear enough, etc.?
I suppose the bean counters had this all figured out, sort of like my BIL told me when he flew for Northwest. they had a route, Fargo to billings or something like that that the bean counters wanted to drop because the traffic never increased. it never increased because the planes were filled to capacity and couldn't. :)

You are missing the point. They have deliveries in that area. They are not turning left simply to avoid a left turn. But to maximize the efficiency of the route. As an individual it makes no sense unless you have a reason to go that way. From a fuel standpoint you will burn more taking the long way. And from a safety standpoint I don't see it either. You are still crossing intersections where someone could run a red and on the road longer, statistically raising the odds of bad things.
  • Exactly ! UPS didn't say make right turns to simply avoid a left. It's about delivering ( stopping and going into a business /home frequently ) along a route. If I had no deliveries to my right of course I turned left ! It's about driving less miles also.
Turning right on a "route" doesn't apply to a RV .
What UPS can teach that does apply is their driver training .. the 5 seeing habits , 10 point commentary ,things like make it a point to NEVER back unless unavoidable ( docks..or for a RV .campsites) backing to driver side as a preferred method if you must back, , back immediately when pulling in after looking out at the site so children don't have time to get behind you without your knowledge and on and on .....
