hardware sound but no software sound

I left my laptop dell inspirion n7010 with windows 7 on table and cat walked across keyboard. I get all the usual startup sounds but no sounds from software I have restarted the computer twice and pushed the three sound buttons (f7 thru f9) keys and nothing happens does anybody have any other suggestions to get sound back.

Thanks

Also check the volume control, not the single slider but the full width multi-slider.

I seriouslyl doubt this but it's possible you lost "WAV" or something.

Now.. I'm typing on a Toshiba Satellite.. By standard the F-11 key makes all the tool bars go away in a browser.. BUT that is not how Tosh shippes 'em. Tosh overroad the default F-keys so that F-11 turns the speakers off.

FN+F11 toggles "Full Screen" on the browser.

I had to get help from Tosh to restore normal key function (FN+F11 now toggles the speakers and F11 by itself does what it always has done).

There is more to this speil but alas, Have no wish to melt your monitor.
  • Did you ask the cat what changes were made? Sorry, couldn't help it.

Right-mouse click the sound icon in your system tray, and select Playback devices. Under Playback tab, make sure speakers are checkmarked? Not HDMI or S/PDIF?
