HDCP anyone had this pop up on their Dish receiver?

It stands for High bandwidth digital connection protection. I have the 211K in my RV and I send the HDMI to the bedroom TV and the component to the living room TV. Both are HD TV's and sometimes I get this message and sometimes it doesn't come up. If I'm watching TV in the living room and the bedroom is turned off it will send me an attention notice but if I turn on the bedroom TV on it works just fine. I called Dish twice and was no help. Does anyone know how to corect this?
Thanks G
  • Thanks For the help, I reset the receiver and it was no help, I noticed that when I unplug the HDMI cable at the BR TV is clears the code or if I turn the BR TV on it works fine. It just happens when I'm using my LR TV without the BR TV on. The LR is hooked up component video.
    Thanks G
  • Not exactly.... Its a little known fact that any time a source is powered up, like a DSS receiver, blueray, etc., it calls out the HDMI port to see whats out there. If there is a device that can convert the digital protected stream into something like HD-SDI (pure uncompressed video), it will shut the port off because you now have the potential of removing the copy protection, so you must be a bootlegger.

Whats likely happening is that when that bootup call is performed by the receiver, either its getting two responses from both receivers, or a corrupted response because there are two TV's trying to talk at the same time. I see this occasionally in the RV and the only fix is to repower the receiver and let it try again so the receiver only talks to one TV. Leaving both on at power up is likely causing the error. In DirecTV land they turn HDCP on and off at random. We see it at the station when plugging in HD-SDI converters and get a bluescreen. We can usually call and get an exception, but a normal customer service doesnt have that authority nor likely understands the protocol.

No, HDCP stands for "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection".

It may be because your HDMI connector is HDCP compliant, but your component connectors aren't -- all component video is not HDCP compliant. That's why there are no component video connectors on the 211z.

I suggest you just keep your bedroom TV on.
