Hooking TV into built-in stereo

We have a 2007 Holiday Rambler MH with a built in stereo speaker system through out.

We also have a newer LG 32" TV. We have tried a sound bar but are not real happy with it. It also bounces around a lot when we are traveling.

Would like to know if there is a way to wire the TV into the built-in stereo. Has anyone done this to their coach?

Thanks in advance!

  • Are you sure the stereo doesnt already have audio out?
I removed my stereo to figure out why I had little to no reception...I found the antenna and a A/V RCA patchcord plugged in to the outputs on the stereo with a rubberband wrapped around both.
  • If your stereo and TV have a fiber optics audio connector you can connect the two together and get your television audio coming out your RV's stereo speakers. If not, the other alternative is if your stereo has an aux phono jack and if your television has a headphone jack. This will do it also - but on our RV stereo the headphone jack on the TV was not putting a digital audio signal into the stereo and there was stereo but no surround sound. We used the optic audio cable and get surround sound now coming from the RV stereo surround speaker system.
  • I actually did this just last week. I used a headphone miniplug to RCA adapter, then RCA couplers, then an RCA extension cable to go into the "Aux In" on my OEM Jensen radio. It is nothing like home quality, but it is 20 times better than the puny tv speakers.
  • you may need to convert the TV speaker output to line level stereo input with something like this

Actually there are two ways. And I'm guessing your radio does not have a DVD player in it. But is the standard stereo.

One way. There are inputs on the front of most built in RV stereos. Run a split RC cord from the right, and Left TV RC out puts to the Right, and Left, RC inputs on the front of the stereo. Choose "AUX" on the stereo slider. The TV will play thru the stereo.

Two. Loosen the stereo, and gently pull it out of it's hole. There are the same RC inputs on the back. (this is the one I did). Route the cord from the TV thru the side of the stereo compartment, and plug them into the RC R, and L input jacks. Choose AUX on the front of the stereo. The TV will play thru the stereo.

Either way. You can control the volume with the TV remote. It just looks better if you hide the cord.

I'm sorry. I told you wrong on number one. To do it that way. You have to use a mini plug Y. Meaning a mini plug with two RC connectors on it. Then you plug it into the "AUX in" just beside the head phone jack.

This is for the Jenson AWM910 AM, FM, CD, stereo. The awm968 and awm965 has it as well.
  • I plugged my TV's output into the stereo's front jack and now enjoy "almost" surround sound. Very nice.

  • You'd have to look for inputs on the stereo first- if you can get to them. If the inputs are compatible it should be rather easy.
