Hooking up a 12V 3A TV in my TT

I just acquired a 24" LED TV that runs on 12V 3A power. It doesn't have the AC power cord/adapter with it. But, since it is a 12V TV, can I run it straight off the 12V system in the camper? Or do I need to throttle down the amperage being delivered to it to 3amps? I figure since it is already a 12V TV, why buy an AC adapter for it if my camper already has 12V.

Let me know the best way to hook this up in my camper.
Thanks,
Bruce

  • Can I just figure out the pin out on the connector and patch that into a car cigarette lighter adapter and plug it into the 12V car adapter port on my TV antenna panel in my TT???? Or does it need some kind of regulator/adapter between 12V power and the TV?

  • Free TV, so if she blows, it is OK, I guess. I will have to figure out how to hook it up to battery power. It uses one of those round adapter plug ins on the back.
  • your potential issue is not the amperage...regardless of the supply the TV will only draw 3-amps. no, your issue is voltage. check the TV specs and see if it lists the acceptable voltage range. many 12-volt appliances will safely operate between 11.x and 13.x volts. one other caution. in our first MH we blew a 12-volt appliance one time when we started our genny. from that point we always unplugged any powered on 12-v appliance plugged into a 12-v outlet.
