Hopper without dish or internet...

Anyone know if I can use the hopper like a DVD player? IOW, just unplug it from the house and set it into the trailer and plug it into the TV. Then just play already recorded content?
Thanks
Dan
  • You can just transfer recorded shows over your network from the Hopper to your phone or tablet. No special cable needed. Just set a show or series to be transferred when you set the recording.
  • This is going to need some more research
    Thanks
There have been several recent questions about DVR and video transfer
Normally rental box DVR systems are encrypted
If a video can be transferred (not streamed) to the phone to be watched anytime some where else with no internet connection
And no special app, then that video could then be copied from the phone to any other device you wish
I don't see the cable and satellite industry allowing this too happen

Hopper Transfers do require a special app.

    Thanks for the link
Exactly the question I ask the first time
You need the app and the video is formatted for the device app
    Aka protected

Still if you have the hopper, the device and the app, you can use a cable between the device Apple or Android and watch it on the RV TV

The only reason I did not test this myself is it's a royal pain to extract from the entertainment center.
Maybe I'm missing something, but can't you just remove the sat feed and leave it in place to test? Why would it matter if it's in the trailer?

Thanks. I was just about to say the same thing. Just to be sure, I may also unplug it to totally power down and then restart.
  • I just got back from a weekend of camping. I confirmed that the hopper without any other connections was able to play pre-recorded shows without any issues.
I did have two unexplained "crashes" where the hopper rebooted unexpectedly. I have never seen that at home.
Anyway, the main thing is it works!
