When you are surfing Facebook and similar sites you can have videos that start and stream automatically. If you see and interesting topic you might click to the You Tube video associated with that topic. If you have a Win 10 computer and don't block updates or if you send and receive photos in your e-mails you can use up a lot of data. You are an IT person.....get with it!
You mention that 3GB on your phone is plenty. I could not get through 1/2 a month on 3GB. That's why there is a seat for every butt. You just have to understand what you want and what you need and find a plan that works for you.
