Personally I think the industry has gotten the cart ahead of the horse. Streaming should have never been allowed on open public wifi until the bandwidth was available and that could be years away.
As you might suspect I don't do much streaming myself. I'm a programmer and heavy Internet user. But the amount of bandwidth I use is nothing compared to streaming video and even music.
I don't expect free Internet for my professional use. Besides it's too unreliable due to people trying to stream... I have my own hotspot when I'm camping, which costs $120 month for 20gb. That's without cell phones.
I have tried Netflix on my hotspot and it works pretty well. But if I remember, it was using about 800mb per hour. So, 25 hours of watching would use up my 20gb.
