I have the tripod set up looking south, with NO obstructions for 180* within the next 5 miles, flat open fields, other than a 4 strand barbed wire fence.

The multi-satellite dishes are extremely sensitive to exact location, as well to any interference from trees, hills or structures between the dish and the satellites. Have you checked clearance at about 45 degrees above horizon where the tripod is pointing? The satellite numbers are a good start, but they won't give you an exact fix for your location, and you will almost certainly have to fine-tune your settings; a good satellite finder can be a necessity for this. If you don't have one, you will have to move the dish in both azimuth and elevation until you get a signal, or you can try moving the tripod to a different location.
