For some reason, people who have poor hearing and have never had hearing aids seem to think getting them will make them old or not attractive. The astigmatism is unwarranted and once you get your first pair, you'll kick yourself for not getting them sooner. While hearing aids won't make your hearing like it was when you were 20, they will improve your hearing to the point that you can enjoy life more. As mentioned, newer hearing aids can be utilized with bluetooth and will transmit the tv sound directly to the hearing aids. Huge improvement.
However, I still have the older model (non-bluetooth) and also have DISH and use a TV head phone transmitter plugged into my DISH receiver so that the TV speakers will still operate and I can adjust the sound in my headset.
I'm in the process now of getting a new set of Costco hearing aids with bluetooth. The cost is around $2700 bucks for both, but health insurance now will reimburse you up to $3000 every three calendar years.
