Actually, I think you can buy an add on that fits in a port on your laptop from Verizon that wil give you Internet access about anywhere...

Do you have a smartphone that is capable of operating as a hotspot? Many now do, or if you are getting a hotspot, you may want to get a phone that can , without having to deal with an additional bill.

Our jetpack and phone share the same 24 gigs from Verizon.

Get a prepaid plan for data either from Verizon or AT&T depending on what bands your phone uses. Then use the phone as a hotspot as suggested by kerriakeRoo.

I use VERIZON Mi-Fi (JetPack). Any VERIZON store. I use it at home and on the road. Anywhere (well, almost anywhere) you can use your VERIZON phone, this gives you the internet.

In my experience, I could not access the web on the JetPack but could use my phone was in Junction Texas. (so I used the cg system for the nite)

Or, get an unlocked smartphone from Amazon, use it with straight talk and for $55 a month have unlimited phone use on Verizon towers, unlimited data with no 22 gig caps, all in one unit.

And straight talk does not allow that on their phones, maybe as an add-on
But that unlimited data is for the phone internet, not WiFi hotspot to PC or USB cable tether

Yes, for PC use only and 5 months of the year is what I need.

verizon has a $50 jetpack and two $200 jetpacks. I suppose the cheap one is 3G. I wonder if the expensive ones are worth the extra cost for light use.

They used to be able to tell when a line was tethered by the use of an "https" designator, and phone companies would terminate usage at that point, And the same few disable the programming for tethering or hotspot usage on phones bought from them.
I used easy tether for my internet access for several years with straighttalk, and was able to stay active that way. later I got an unlocked Motorola phone and used it as a wifi hotspot fro another year. I currently have my same Moto G4 with Total wireless (a straighttalk affiliate) that has the same rules , and have used it as a hotspot for over another year.
Originally I had gotten it for using a chromecast unit, but found that by buying an unlocked phone from a non tracfone provider the whole issue was moot. Yes all tracfone sisters say no tethering, because of tracfone providing the phones for all the servicing companies, but they do not all operate in the same way.
They may not openly support it, but they are selling unlimited data as an upgrade, So they cant be too worried about it.
And the use of a moto G leaves it open in the future to use the phone with any provided since it operates in either a GSM or CDMA environment.
