Internet TV vs Satelite TV >> ROKU Box

Since all tv channels are now digital there is no need for a expensive satellite tv system and high monthly fees.

ROKU box is here, you can download Amazon tv or Netflix tv or many other providers, (soon Apple tv) and they only cost $80.00 per year with no commercials.

I have ROKU now in my home and never watch Direct tv much anymore and thinking of stopping the service and saving a ton of money.

And my motorhome Winegaurd Satellite is broke and replacement will cost about $1800, so was just thinking of a external wifi booster antenna to increase my signal strength, cost about $200, than I can pickup my wifi signal many miles outside the wifi range.

Has anyone else gone this direction, its a lot cheaper than satellite and since 95% of my camping is near wifi signal I might as well go the cheaper and better way..

  • If you amongst the 1% of the Country that has unlimited cellular internet then you "might" find some use for what you propose. The rest of us have no such option and will remain with satellite TV.
Advice for few does not do a lot of good for the masses.

How big a signal will you have to downstream... Sounds like it may be pretty big...

NO! It won't work unless you bring your own Internet connection. Many CG's are restricting these types of streaming devices as they hog the parks WiFi bandwidth and leave others without data. Don't be that guy! Consider getting a Verizon MiFi 4G hotspot and pony up for a big data plan to go with your ROKU box for the campground....

Yes I already have this, look at the post above, forgot to mention this in my 1st post..

Are you depending on the RV park wifi signal to be fast enough for downloading tv video? I have never been to one that had that fast of a signal. For a mifi or hot spot use - you would have to have unlimited data because one movie uses a lot of data.

Oh yes I forgot to mention I already have version wifi Jet Pack, it 4g unlimited tied with our cell phone service monthly plan, it does very fast downloads.

So I already pay for this might as well and use it, I also have a business wifi plan at my home that's unlimited for our ROKU box at home.

My wife and I already use the ROKU 90% more than direct tv, we are thinking of stopping this service and saving the money.

Once you go ROKU its hard to go back to cable or satellite, its cheaper and no commercials..
