IPad Battery

I'm about ready to purchase an IPad. Several of my friends have them so I asked this question, "Is the battery replaceable?" (all rechargeable batteries have a finite life, as far as I know).

Well, we pondered the question and came up with three possibilities:

1. Buy a new tablet ($$$).

2. Send the tablet back to the factory for battery replacement.

3. Use the tablet always plugged in (sort of defeats its purpose).

Almost appears to be a case of "planned obsolescence"

What has been your experience? How long should these batteries last?

  • Apple replaced my iPhone 5 battery for free under the warrantee but the actual charge was 79.00 and took 15 min in store .. I'm sure the iPad is similar
  • We had our iPad for about 2 years now and have no problems so far with the battery.

Yesterday I went to the Apple Store for some help with my photo's. I had photo's in Aperture and iPhoto, I desperately needed help, LOL. While they were moving my photo's for me they tested my iPhone. They found out my battery was going bad. Actually, I thought my phone was good as far as the battery. I think I had the phone for a about a year, but they looked up my warranty and said I was covered. While replacing the battery they broke the ribbon that held the battery. Since it wasn't fixable they turned around and gave me a new phone. I say that's great customer service.
  • Anything is replaceable. There are a number of companies that do repair a lot cheaper than Apple.

Just for kicks, google "uTube iPad battery replacement". Now you can replace your own battery!
  • I've had mine about two years and no battery problems yet. Mine gets a lot of use so really have no idea how it will last.
