iPhone mobile wifi hotspot, I am late to the party

Why didn't someone tell me about this 3 years ago? Prior to a month long trip in May my iPhone 4 died after 3 good years. A free class at the Apple store on the SE showed me how the wifi hotspot worked so I could connect a laptop anywhere there was a phone signal. No more am I dependent on the unknown RV park wifi quality. Over 4 weeks we used the phone hotspot and RV parks about equally. Since I don't do movies, games or music the data plan is no worry. Now I find out the old phone could do this and I missed out on three years of better wifi on the road. I guess I was just not listening. So guys, listen up.
  • Thanks, good recommendation. Also that is why this thread is much more useful here than in a tech section because of a regular traveler like me. From now on what is offered by a park is much less important.
  • Yep, you're late to the party but at least the party's still going on. By your sig, you travel around. Not all cell providers are equal. If you have two smart devices, here's the next step to your partying. Get one national cell provider on your smart phone. Use a different national provider for your other smart device (if you have get a tablet, be sure you get a cell enabled tablet). Then if you are in an area where only one provider is available, you can hotspot your other device and puter to the the one that has service
  • This is exactly why I laugh at he GM commercial that shows how new GM cars:trucks have built in WiFi! Just about every car on the road has it!

Yes it is nice to be able to hotspot anything. We have an unlimited plan, as long as there is a signal were good!
  • Don't get to excited. We use iPhones for hot spot when wifi does not work or work well. Just because you can get a phone call does not mean you can get acceptable data service. But there is no need for an additional device.
  • Cellphone wifi hotspot
Is a recurring topic that comes up over in the 'technology corner 'forum
