I have used my VERIZON MIFI setup with good results on the move several time... I have a WILSON SLEEK cradle setup which has an outside antenna connections... Most of the time however my cellphone is sitting in the WILSON CRADLE...
This is the general idea using the WILSON SLEEK CRADLE - This works anywhere you get VERIZON cell phone service...

I am currently only using an original 3GB dataplan setup but will probably upgrade to MILLENICOM 20GB PLAN in the near future. This plan is MIFI based and also uses the VERIZON network. Sounds like a good $60 a month investment for me...
I don't think I would ever want to use any of the non-secure WIFI connections scatterer all over the country. Just doesn't sound like a good idea to pay bills on-line going through one of those... ALot of people use them however... Not for me....
I should also have added the VERIZON MIFI plan creates a secure WIFI hotspot in the general vicinity of our LAPTOPs-TABLETs-and other WIFI enable devices.. I carry my home DELL M90 Work Station with me on my trips and when setup at camp grounds I just plug the M90 laptop into a dell docking station that has external keyboard, monitors, sound etc.. All works 99 percent the same as at home... I also carry several USB based hard drives to support my different operations for computer use photos, ham radio ops, drawings etc... Pretty much brings my whole computer ops with me where-ever we end up at... All of this in my OFF-ROAD POPUP haha...
