Here is what I do to use my OTA Antenna to pick up stations...
First I got to the VIZIO HDTV MENU and select ANTENNA in the setup menu.
Then I make sure the ANTENNA PANEL feeding the ROOF ANTENNA push button switch is ON.
Then I move the OTA ANTENNA towards the local town that is is broadcasting the digital NATL BROADCAST channels.
Then I start a digital scan for TV STATIONS...
If I don't see any digital stations starting to count up on the station counter in the first 15% of scanning I stop the scan and move the antenna one way or the other and then start the scan all over again...
We usually get 6-36 (sometimes alot more) digital TV stations.
I too have the surelock and of course it just looks at the frequency band the TV stations are using. Once it peaks up on a signal I start zeroing in on it by turning the adj knob on the surelock back and keep peaking on the received signal by moving the antenna. I will use the direction that peaks up the most on the lowest knob setting of the shurlock.
A couple of points to always double check - First make sure you have the antenna panel push button ON which supplies 12VDC up to your BATWING or JACK antenna.
Make sure your HDTV menu is set to work from the ANTENNA not the CABLE
Also keep in mind that you have to scan for new digital HDTV signals everytime you setup.
Just for your info we get better reception using our BATWING Antenna which is using the UHF DIPOLEs verses the King JACK Antenna. Tried both antennas on same TV distant NETWORK BROADCAST stations. Both antennas worked great but I would get fading from passing airplanes on the JACK and also had to really point the JACK to the BROADCAST stations to pick them up. The BATWING seemed to have a broader antenna beam width.
Our local NETWORK BROADCAST here at home is some 50 miles to the north from here and has their different network antenneas on the east and west side of Washington DC. Using the BATWIONG I can pick all of the station s up pretty good with one direct setting on the antenna. Using the JACK Antenna I have to move the antenna to be able to pick up the two different groups of transmitting antennas.
This is just my simple test mind you - Have heard lots of users say they like the JACK antenna over the BATWING thumbs down...
