Now I know exactly what you are talking about.. This is like my Linksys WGA54G it is a WI-Fi to LAN adapter that lets you connect the Sat Receiver to your Wi-Fi network without the need to run cables.
WHY: Well modern sat (and cable) receivers can also stream netflix. Hulu and even be programmed remotely to record (If they have a DVR function) shows.. My vintage DVR can .. or rather could.. do that as well back before they ended support. May offer some other features a well like file sharing via LAN (mine do)
