Just so you are aware

I lived in a rural area for a bit in college and made it a habit of calling ahead to see if a particular item was in stock before driving all the way to the city for a particular item (especially Cabelas). I doubt you are hurting CW sales that much by taking your sale to Amazon. I'm a diehard Amazon shopper but there are still thrones of consumers that do not trust the internet for purchases or simply prefer in-store shopping.

Maybe he should have asked a manager. Whether I am hurting CW or not is not the point. CW should be aware. If a customer comes to my store and I am out of stock I ship them the item for free.
I actually was not looking for editorial from others, I wanted to make the powers that be know they should have a process in place.
Its apparent neither of you are in business because rule one is never let a sale walk out the door without a reasonable attempt to resolve an issue

As for CW I like them, always have. I just think they should be aware of l;ost sales

If you weren't looking for feeback from others, don't post your problem on a public forum....pick up a phone and call the store manager.

Yep... calling ahead to confirm/hold or just ordering online at CampingWorld.com seems like the simplest way to avoid a (unnecessary) drive. Apparently, as a GoodSam member, the CampingWorld.com shipping would have already been free... no driving at all required.

All this is true... in hindsight/Monday morning quarterbacking etc (as is in most cases), yes, a phone call or online verification or shipping would've been easier, but most posters of those comments I think are missing the point.

I think the point that the OP is trying to make is that the CW customer service at that location by that employee let him down in this situation. The resolution was not the point of his post, though it is a result (resolution or non-resolution) of his point. Yes, he could've been proactive and called ahead of time... and he knows that now (as we all do), but the employee could've have also been more helpful to help him get the item he wanted, a sale, a returning customer, and avoided bad publicity such as this post and word of mouth.

Customer service is something that is really lacking in our current business society, mostly by the big chains.

I would much rather support and be able to go to the local store to buy my items, even if it's at a slightly higher price than online "IF" I get great or even good customer service and assistance, but that is rarely the case anymore. And big businesses wonder why and gripe that people are buying more and more items online. Go figure.

BTW, I have also visited the Valencia CW, and his experience there does not surprise me... Thus, I have stopped going there unless absolutely necessary, which thankfully I haven't had to.

I will now expect every/any store I go into to ship for FREE ANY product they are out of stock on that I want.
No need to make a FREE call first.

^SidKaye, I don't see where the OP was looking for a free shipment... that's simply what HE does/would do in a similar situation. I think the OP is just making it known that no attempt was made to make the sale and keep a customer; no offer was made to ship it, at cost, free, or otherwise - he just let him go to order the item from another vendor.
