Some USB cables are not both data and power. Since it worked on your old laptop but not the new have you tried other ports?
And here is another old, long thread with different things tried and some worked for different folks Neither mapupdater or GE find my Nuvi
I'm finding with my new win 10 machine some flash drives don't work with the 3.0 USB ports but do with the 2.0 port to date I've only used the 2.0 port with the Nuvi, I've got one that is due firmware updates so I'll try the 3.0 port tomorrow.
