Surefire G2x Pro
The best compact LED flashlight I have ever owned. Not cheap, but worth every dollar.
I recommend the Lithium rechargeable pack.

Free, works well as is and when needed replace with 3 AAAs.

It may be 1,000 CP. It is way more than the expensive rechargeables, I've looked at. Closes rival was 800 CP, rechargeable, I think for well over a hundred bucks.

We use the Energizer High Intensity LED Flashlight, $17 at Amazon. Takes 2 AAs. Puts out 150 lumens. Seems plenty bright but don't know how that compares cost per lumen.

I 2nd "The Texan" suggestion.
I have two MINI-MAGLITEs and got LED conversion kits from Lowe's for $7.12 plus tax each and they work a lot better than the originals.

Fenix E11 is a moderately priced ($20-$25) high performance tiny flashlight. Surefire lights are amazing but you have to be willing to spend $100 and more. I have some of the Harbor Freight ones that they give away and they put out almost as much light as a candle, almost.

I really like these. Not the cheapest but small and convenient. We have them velcroed around the camper. The red ones we use in the bedroom.

Pak-Lite

Recently bought several Cree LED 1800 lumen flashlights on E_Bay for each of our vehciles and a couple for in the house and each of the grandsons for Christmas. Love them, they use either 3 AAA batteries or 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries. :)
