I need to get educated on downloading and reading books that I can check out of my local library while I am on the road. . . :h . . 1. Can I save them (rip ?) to my computer (or kindle) to listen to later? or must them be streaming?2. I did find the Overdrive web site and installed the program. What else do I need to do?3. My MP3 player is the Clip+. If I can get the MP3 book on my computer I know how to transfer to the Clip+.Thanks

I use the Clip and it's super easy to transfer from Overdrive to the Clip. Just select the book at the library website, when you Save it Overdrive will open and ask if you want to download it and where. Specify where, then after it's downloaded plug in your Clip and use the "Transfer" button and follow the directions. Kind of convoluted, but not really difficult. After you've done it a couple times, it's a non-issue.I put all my books in the Audiobooks folder in my Clip, in a folder of the book. You can do than when you transfer them to the Clip. That keeps you from having a ton of MP3's that you have to sort through to get to the one you want to listen to.

I sign in with my local library card to pick and check out my books, then they can be downloaded to any or all my devices, which include a smartphone, a NOOK HD+, my desktop computer, or my laptop. Checkouts expire automatically after three weeks. It works just like going to the public library in person, and checking out books from their shelves. Even better, as they get no overdue fines, and return automatically. I can access the library to get new books from anywhere we have internet access. And, it is free!

Best thing is to go to your local library, make sure your card is current, and have them show you how to do it. Instructions and helppages are a bit vague, but its really easy!

If you want e-books you will need an appointment to open them, on a PC or tablet. Either a Kindle app, or Adobe Digital Editions. Works great!

Right now, I have 6 books checked out, already read 3 of them, and about 10 more on hold. And haven't been to the physical library in over a year. Don't do audio books, not driving that much anymore, and if I try to sit and listen to them, I go to sleep.

Chicago public library. Pick an address in Chicago, go to the library website, sign up for a card using the address you picked.

You will be able to use overdrive to check out ebooks, zinio for e magazines. FREE!

Not the biggest selection of newer books but check out loyalbooks.com or they have a free app too. Streaming and downloads of audiobooks and ebooks.

I have signed up for multiple library accounts all over. I like to download and read the magazines. The library cards just get mailed to my home address and i never have had a problem.

I'm not a fan of audio books but I know many people who are and they will be very happy with this.
This is a beautiful easy to use web site, same with the Apple app.
