Local Channels on DirecTV

We are in FL for the winter from MI and our local MI channels are blacked out. Is there a way to get the local FL area channels here in FL?

That was a neat thing to get a few years back... Now you lose it when you get beyond your assigned zipcode. i think you can call them and they will reset things but I get the feeling they may only do this a time or two..

I have great success using the OTA antenna and scanning in the new digital NATL BROADCAST channels from the local towns... These are sent out in full high def mode and very easy on the eyes compared to what you get from the local cable hookups...

We use to bring along our bedroom SAT RCVR and a spare dish setup and watch DirecTv all over from our home account. Since the Natl Broadcast is so good we don't bring along our SAT TV stuff anymore...

Give it a try out using your batwing OTA antenna. Just point to local town and scan in to your DIGITAL TV. Sometimes we have to try different positions to find the the transmitting HDTV signal but other than that it Works like gang busters for us just about everywhere we go... It is also FREE TO USE...

The other big plus for us is there is always a 24/7 RADAR view on one of the local town stations. Lets us keep track of the local storms that might be heading our way. Not fun in our off-road POPUP when high winds are around the neighborhood...

  • You didn't say where in Florida you are but the batwing OTA antenna is about the best way to do that. Usually, just about anywhere you are in FL is close enough to a large city to get their local channels with it. It does require you to have a digital TV or an analog/digital converter. If you do get DTV to change your service location, there is a good chance you will need an oval 3 LNB dish to get the locals as I don't believe any of them are on the 101 satellite. You didn't say whether you have HD on your DTV system?
  • Directv told me all I had to do was call and give my new location. However, I havent had the opportunity to do so as of now.

Please post your results if you do call.
